Unnatural Products - A Blog About Inorganic Chemistry (and sometimes polymers)

Image from Materials 2014, 7(5), 3956-3989

I'm glad that you found this blog, however you arrived here. I've been meaning to start one for a few years, but life kept getting in the way. I have a moment (and motivation) now, so I figured I'd finally get started.

I've been impressed by the chemistry blogging community for years now, but I've always been surprised by how large a portion of it is dedicated to 'traditional' organic chemistry and total synthesis, and wanted to give my own fields of inorganic and polymer chemistry the B.R.S.M treatment. I owe no small debt to that blog, so to BRSM - thanks for the inspiration. I don't anticipate these posts being up to your standard, but a guy can dream. Hopefully you, the reader, will find something of interest here, even if it's just pretty pictures of clusters and crystal structures. I'll probably also write about industry goings-on (public ones, of course) and other topics where I feel qualified to comment. There have been some very interesting papers recently, and I hope to have a post on one of them finished by the end of August.

Thanks for reading!

About me: I'm a chemist in industry with a background in the most inorganic-y parts of inorganic chemistry: solid state and cluster chemistry. I did a postdoc in polymer chemistry because my then-girlfriend wasn't terribly thrilled with the idea of being married to an academic and polymers are both interesting and I had previous industrial experience with them through a BS in materials science and a stint in industry prior to grad school. I now work for a medium-sized specialty materials company on the US east cost doing all sorts of organic and inorganic synthesis. All opinions are my own.
